The Purpose of Giving

Deuteronomy was one of Jesus’ favorite books of the Bible. In Deuteronomy 8 we’re told in no uncertain terms that any good thing we have is a gift. Yes, we may work hard, but who gave us strong muscles and sharp minds to use, to make a good living? Who gave us opportunities where we could apply ourselves?

God longs for us to know that we are in his hands. We are not alone. He is looking out for us and providing for us.

To live into this reality, we encourage every Christian who calls St. John’s home, to give back part of what God has given them. We give first and foremost to God. We also give to support the ministry of St. John’s. For those who are ready, we encourage them to take the step of faith that is tithing (giving 10% of our income back to God).

If you are exploring who Jesus is or are visiting St. John’s, please be our guest. We have no expectation for you to give. For those who have decided to follow Jesus and call St. John’s home, we encourage you to give generously, as you are able.

Ways to Give

There are several ways to give:

  • The offering plate on Sunday morning

  • Mailing checks directly to the church office (directly or through your bank)

  • Online (please see the link below)

  • If you’d like to donate stock or to give through your estate, by naming St. John’s as a beneficiary in your will, please contact the church office.
